About Reading Security Ltd
A Reading-based security company protecting people, property and businesses across Berkshire.
Who we are
Reading Security Ltd provides security services to businesses, property managers, contractors, event organisers and private customers in and around Reading.
The company was set up in 2026 with a clear aim: to give local organisations a security provider that is easy to reach, straightforward to deal with and dependable from the first shift.
The most common frustrations with security providers are officers who do not turn up, reports that never arrive, and companies that are hard to get hold of. We built the business around avoiding exactly those problems. Every assignment is planned around the site, duties are agreed in writing, and customers can reach us at any hour.
Our work covers guarding, patrols, event security and specialist cover such as keyholding and vacant property inspections. What ties it together is a simple approach: understand the site properly, agree clearly what will be done, and then do it consistently.
Our mission and values
To give customers security they can rely on, delivered by people who represent them well.
Reliability
Cover is planned in advance, and customers are told promptly about anything that affects it.
Professionalism
Officers are expected to be well presented, courteous and clear about their duties.
Honesty
We say what we can and cannot do, and put arrangements in writing so there are no surprises.
Care
Security is about people. We aim to keep staff, visitors, residents and the public safe.
Our approach to risk and tailored security
No two sites are the same. Before proposing cover, we look at how the premises are used, when they are most exposed, what has happened before and what you are trying to prevent.
Depending on the site, that may include a visit. The proposal that follows sets out the duties, hours and reporting we recommend, and the reasons for them. Arrangements are reviewed if the site or the risks change.
Communication and customer relationships
Customers should never have to chase their security provider. You will know who to contact, incidents are reported in writing, and changes to cover are agreed with you rather than made quietly.
Assignment instructions are written down and shared, so everyone on site works to the same standard.
Licensing and legal requirements
The UK private security industry is regulated. This is how the main requirements apply to the work we do.
SIA licensing
Under the Private Security Industry Act 2001, people carrying out certain security activities under contract must hold a front-line licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA). The licence depends on the activity. Security Guarding, Door Supervision, Public Space Surveillance (CCTV), Key Holding and Close Protection are separate licence types, and not every role requires the same one.
Anyone can check a licence on the SIA register of licence holders, using the GOV.UK licence checker.
Vetting and right to work
SIA licence applicants are subject to identity and criminality checks as part of the licensing process. Employers must also carry out right to work checks. Customers with particular screening requirements, for example under BS 7858, should tell us when requesting a quote so we can confirm what applies.
Data protection and CCTV
Security work often involves personal data, from visitor logs to CCTV footage. This information must be handled in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, used only for its stated purpose and kept securely.
Health and safety
Security officers work under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. Site risks, lone working and emergency procedures are considered when assignments are planned, together with the site's own rules.
This section summarises general requirements and is not legal advice. Requirements depend on the specific activity and contract.
